Kick-off at LogiPlus with Dr Markus Merk! Referee legend inspires with impulse lecture on 9 July 2021
The three-time world referee and seven-time referee of the year in Germany was the keynote speaker at the highlight of the annual employee convention of the SAP logistics experts from Ludwigshafen. In a captivating lecture, he showed how complex situations can be analysed as quick as an arrow under high pressure in order to quickly make safe decisions.
Using many examples from the world of football, he made it clear that the promising approaches are not only valid in sport, but also in social and economic life. Whether a referee has to decide within a fraction of a second whether it was a foul or not – or whether an employee has to bring about a solution to a problem quickly. The decisive factors are goal-oriented communication and team-oriented action.
But Markus Merk had many other examples and analogies at the ready. For beyond football, there is a whole other world for him. For many years, he has initiated various development projects, such as schools and orphanages in India for well over 1,000 children.
In addition, Germany’s best-known referee takes on extreme sporting challenges in his spare time, such as climbing six- and seven-thousand-metre peaks in the Andes and the Himalayas, the Zugspitz Ultratrail or expeditions to the North Pole. There, too, team orientation and safe decisions are of essential and sometimes existential importance.
The spellbound LogiPlus employees dismissed Dr Markus Merk with thunderous applause and made intensive use of the opportunity to talk to him even after the end of the event.
