Fully automated distribution center at BYK-Chemie
Migration from SAP WM to SAP EWM in the brownfield
- May 07, 2026
- 10:30 - 11:15 a.m.
How BYK-Chemie and LogiPlus transformed a highly automated hazardous materials warehouse to SAP S/4HANA - scalable, near-standard, future-proof.
At its headquarters in Wesel, BYK-Chemie GmbH operates a highly automated distribution center with around 11,000 fully automated pallet storage locations, electric monorail systems, storage and retrieval machines and KUKA picking robots. The previous SAP WM world was removed in the middle of ongoing operations with the S/4HANA migration.
The migration to SAP Embedded EWM of a warehouse management system that has been individually developed over the years is not just an IT project – it is a strategic and process-driven decision.
Together with LogiPlus, BYK-Chemie replaced its existing WM system in a brownfield approach as part of the S/4HANA transformation and replaced it with a scalable, standards-based solution – in parallel with the ERP transformation, without a greenfield site and without a complete test environment. In close cooperation between the logistics department, IT and LogiPlus, the existing automated processes were seamlessly continued.
In the live talk moderated by IT-Onlinemagazin, Christian Schnaak, Head of IT Digital Core SCM at BYK-Chemie, and LogiPlus CEO Thilo Matheis talk openly about challenges, automation integration, change management and why cooperation at eye level was the real success factor.
