SAP MFS (Material Flow System) is a module of SAP EWM. It is used for material flow control in automated warehouse systems (high-bay warehouses, automated small parts warehouses) as well as in complex, highly automated logistics centers and production facilities. In real time! SAP MFS is used, for example, to comprehensively control highly dynamic, fully automated shuttle miniload warehouse systems, sorters or sequencers.

Basically, SAP MFS contains functions for controlling, managing, coordinating and monitoring resources and transports. The control covers all goods movements in the warehouse, from goods receipt to dispatch. In addition, SAP MFS coordinates and optimised the sequence of work steps, controls order processing and issues movement commands to the PLC of the machines or systems.
SAP MFS as part of SAP EWM integrates the logistics system control into the SAP ERP system currently in use. SAP MFS enables direct communication between SAP EWM and a programmable logic controller (PLC), which controls the transportation of handling units in the warehouse.
This enables direct connection to partially or fully automated warehouse systems. There is no need to integrate external middleware and sub-systems such as warehouse control computers or material flow computers. This reduces operating costs and significantly increases transparency and flexibility.
Direct communication between SAP EWM and the warehouse control system guarantees seamless control of material flows in real time.
