LogiPlus looks back on successful expert event on production supply with SAP EWM in Walldorf

Practical best practices, AI impulses, automation trends and live experiences inspire participants

Ludwigshafen/Walldorf – December 18, 2025 – LogiPlus Consulting GmbH brought together around 30 participants from industry, logistics and IT at an exclusive specialist event at the SAP event location Cloud44 and the SAP S.Factory on November 27. Entitled “Production Supply with SAP EWM – Best Practices and Innovations”, the event offered an in-depth insight into state-of-the-art production logistics, intelligent automation and pioneering SAP technologies along the digital supply chain.

The aim of the event was to promote the transfer of knowledge between experts from research, consulting and industry and at the same time to show practical solutions for how SAP EWM can create real efficiency gains in complex production environments. The intensive exchange, numerous questions and the consistently positive response made it clear how great the need for such formats currently is.

Technical kick-off: AI, automation & real project insights

The morning was opened by an inspiring presentation by Prof. Dr.-Ing. Marcus Abramowski, who addressed the topic of AI with the presentation: “Maximizing potential in order processing and staging with SAP EWM – using AI where it pays off”.

Abramowski, professor at the renowned TH Wildau, used specific scenarios to show where artificial intelligence is already delivering measurable added value today – for example in forecasting relevant information flows, accelerating time-critical process steps or reducing the workload of manual routine activities. It became particularly clear: AI unfolds its greatest benefits where it is strategically embedded and specifically supports real logistics processes.

Dr. Markus Nave, Managing Director of Malorg GmbH, then took over in his presentation “Best practices with automation approaches to optimize production supply”, in which he highlighted which automation technologies are already being used successfully in practice. Using examples from industrial production environments, he showed how an intelligent combination of SAP EWM, sensor data and material flow control leads to significantly more stable and efficient production processes. His key message: “Automation is no longer a topic for the future – it is the decisive competitive factor in the here and now.”

Raphael Barreto (COO) and Philipp Klein (Logistics Consultant) from LogiPlus then explained how such concepts can be implemented in practice in a detailed practical report. Under the title “How our customer MAHA optimised production supply with SAP EWM – from planning to execution”, they gave an in-depth insight into a successfully completed project. They showed how a structured preliminary concept, a precise process design and tailor-made implementation steps were used to create a production supply system that is both significantly more efficient and considerably more flexible. The participants not only gained an insight into the technical implementation, but also into the organizational framework conditions that made the project a success.

Afternoon with live experiences in the S.Factory: Digital supply chain up close on the store floor

The afternoon offered participants the opportunity to put theory into practice. There was an exclusive tour of the SAP S.Factory, led by Johannes Papst (SAP) and Irina Milevska (SAP). The S.Factory is considered one of the most modern showcases for digital logistics processes. Automated material flows, modern UI5 interfaces, networked warehouse processes and real store floor scenarios were presented during the tour. The tour made it impressively clear how SAP EWM acts as a central control instance in a digital and highly automated production environment.

In addition, Manuel Flubacher, Global Domain Advisor Logistics at SAP, offered an inspiring strategic impulse under the title “Through the warehouse to the future”. His presentation shed light on how production and logistics environments will change in the coming years, which technologies will have the greatest impact and how companies can set the course for efficient, resilient supply chains today.

In-depth sessions: AutoStore, pre-conception & material flow control

Raphael Barreto and Philipp Klein went on to present practical insights into how AutoStore is also predestined for production supply. They showed best practices from successful LogiPlus projects and explained how the system enables efficient, space-saving and highly dynamic material provision, particularly in combination with SAP EWM.

The afternoon was rounded off with a comprehensive presentation by Thilo Matheis (CEO LogiPlus) on the topic of “Optimizing production supply with SAP solutions.” As an absolute SAP EWM expert, Matheis emphasized how crucial a well thought-out preliminary concept (greenfield vs. brownfield) is for the success of a production logistics project. He also discussed optimal material flow control and explained the differences between SAP MFS and external material flow computers (MFR) – a key issue for many companies with a high degree of automation.

Comments on the event

Looking back on the event, Thilo Matheis, CEO of LogiPlus Consulting GmbH, emphasized the special value of the format for the participants: “Our aim was not just to show the participants technology, but to give them real insights into successful production logistics projects. Because we focus on intralogistics processes. That’s why our credo is “Logistics First”. The direct exchange, the many questions and the high level of technical depth have shown how great the need for such formats is. For us, it was an event that connects knowledge and creates real added value.”

“Hands-on logistics and active exchange – what more could you want? Together with LogiPlus, we were able to create added value for everyone – participants and organizers. Thank you very much,” says Manuel Flubacher (Global Domain Advisor Logistics at SAP), summarizing the event.

An event that stands out

SAP experts and the high level of practical relevance made the event a special format. The mixture of strategic impulses, experience reports from real projects and live insights into the S.Factory ensured an exceptionally high degree of relevance and depth.
