DAW Sweden sells its products via wholesalers and DIY stores as well as directly to end customers via its own B2C shops.
DAW SE made the strategic decision to successively introduce SAP S/4HANA as the ERP system at all of the company’s locations. As part of a global rollout plan, it was determined which locations were to be transformed and when.
In the process, a decision also had to be made regarding the warehouse management software. In order to have a holistically integrated system, the choice ultimately fell on SAP EWM S/4HANA Embedded. As implementation partner we supported DAW in the decision-making process. The first location in this SAP EWM rollout series was Sweden. The warehouse there is around 3,600 square metres in size and comprises almost 4,300 systemic storage locations.
Due to the fixed schedule for the SAP S/4HANA implementation in Sweden, the go-live date for SAP EWM was also fixed. Therefore, it was imperative to keep to the milestones.
In order to be able to keep to the fixed go-live date, it was consciously decided to remain relatively close to the SAP standard. Even if this meant that established processes had to be adapted. To ensure the necessary acceptance by the employees, they were actively involved in the change management process.
Since the basic version of Embedded EWM and not the advanced version was implemented, the full range of services could not be used. Solutions had to be found for non-existing functionalities such as picking planning (waves), cross-docking, shipping or receiving.
The order picking sequence had to be designed very flexibly. Due to the different container types and sizes specific to Sweden, it was necessary to dynamically map the order of picking. This requires additional degrees of freedom for the responsible warehouse staff.
The complete outgoing goods process from picking to packing to staging is carried out by a single employee and was to be mapped in one transaction.
