Christian Speck from the SAP logistics experts at LogiPlus comments on this topic in the March/April 2023 issue of the trade magazine DV-Dialog.
He outlines which aspects SMEs should definitely consider when selecting a warehouse and transportation management solution, including the following features:
The software needs flexibility to adapt quickly to changing market conditions, unforeseen events, fluctuating demand for products and services and changes in business processes.
The software requires functions and tools to increase the efficiency and productivity of employees, also by reducing manual processes. In the warehouse, the connection of automation solutions such as pick-by-vision, AGVs or AutoStore offers massive optimisation potential.
Integrated systems massively increase efficiency, as the example of SAP EWM & SAP TM shows. This integration also enables maximum transparency so that bottlenecks and weak points can be responded to in real time. In addition, the integration of numerous external players improves coordination and collaboration.
There are many facets to consider for a sustainable supply chain: sustainable procurement, emissions management for CO2 balancing, transport optimisation, packaging management, transparency of sustainability standards or supplier audits – to name just a few.
